Rootnote is a cozy game in which you need to restore the life force of a decaying forest by uniting the guardians and using their musical powers to cleanse its infested roots.
I contributed to both the programming and VFX aspects of this project.

Disclamer: Enviornment & character assets are made by Leon Klawon & Romy Bernhard

My main tasks included implementing the note-based ability system, as well as creating and integrating VFX for various gameplay elements. I focused on making the abilities feel responsive and ensuring the visual effects provided clear and satisfying feedback to the player.

I implemented a display shelf that lets players place and show off the collectibles they find throughout the game, giving them a place to keep track of their discoveries and see their collection grow over time.

Grapple points that allow players to quickly traverse the environment and reach different or hidden areas using the grappling mechanic.
Using ankerpoints to pull the player towards the desired location

View points with dolly shots using the existing camera function to pilot and define the desired paths to highlight given areas

Sample of the Enviornment VFX I built using cameras VFX I created using Niagara & the motion design plugin modified for personal uses

Meteor VFX using different material methods and adding Niagara fluid to add further effects
